ORGANIC GARDENING SERVICES AND MORE

We offer maintenance on monthly or more frequent intervals for commercial and residential properties. Services provided by our experienced gardeners include small tree (less than 16’) and shrub pruning, hedge shearing, perennial and annual care, mulching, fertilizing with organic products, weeding and debris removal. We can also advise on proper plant selection and source and install trees, shrubs and bedding and container plants.

THE KNOWLEDGE TO PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT

The huge variety of plants under cultivation and tenacity of noxious and invasive weeds in the Seattle area demands knowledgeable labor for effective maintenance. As such, PGC emphasizes the continual development of sustainable horticulture practice and plant identification skills among our staff. Careless pruning through poor timing, mistaken identity or use of improper equipment can ruin flowering, fruiting and form, if not an entire plant. Inattentive weeding could exacerbate infestations if removal isn’t thorough or well-concealed weeds escape to flower and multiply. Well-informed gardeners that know how to avoid these and other counterproductive practices are then able to provide the best value to property owners.

Spring and Fall Clean Up

Click and Drag for Before and After

RECLAIM YOUR GARDEN

The services involved in yard clean-up are dependent on the season.  We offer a wide range of services that depend on the conditions at your site, the plants in your garden, and the desired outcomes.
SPRING CLEAN UP

For spring clean-ups, the focus is removing debris that has accumulated over the winter, removing mulch and other insulation that may have been placed around tender plants, applying organic fertilizers to boost spring growth, and performing any pruning tasks that plants require to help them prepare for the growth to come. There are other tasks that can be added such as planting spring bulbs, thinning crowded garden beds to prevent diseases that crop up during summer, dividing certain perennials and transplanting.

FALL CLEAN UP

For fall clean-ups the focus will be on performing the tasks involved in putting your garden "to bed" for the winter. This usually includes raking leaves and pine needles and disposing of them, removing any dead or diseased plants to prevent a recurrence in spring, discouraging an environment for invasive insects that go to ground in winter, amending the soil if necessary, adding mulch or other insulation materials around sensitive plants and shrubs, and performing any fall pruning before winter.

Soil Testing

SOIL TESTING AND MANAGEMENT

Soil testing allows us to diagnose soil limitations related to nutrient levels, pH, soil texture, excess salts, and cation exchange capacity.

Using soil test results, we can develop a program of soil management to address specific limitations of garden soils. An effective management program can combine the use of compost additions, fertilization, pH adjustment, and inoculation.

Regular additions of compost can benefit soils by improving water retention and nutrient availability. Improved water retention leads to a reduction in environmentally problematic runoff and a real savings in costs of irrigation water. Greater nutrient availability = lush gardens using less fertilizer.
